On 13 December 2006, the EC parliament and on 18 December 2006, the Council of Ministers
acceded to the compromise proposal of a REACH Directive, which was prepared within the framework the so-called 'Trilog'.
This concluded the legislative procedure because the REACH directive came into force as directly applicable law in all Member States – namely on 1 June 2007. The the far more important date for the economy, however, was 1 June 2008. Because from this date on, substances could be or had to be pre-registered or registered
From 2008-12-01, substances may only be produced and brought into circulation that have been pre-registered or registered.
Detailed discussion of the content of the REACH would exceed the scope of this information,
instead we would like to refer you to the REACH helpdesk of the Federal Organization of
German Industry (BDI) and BAUA, which will assist you with information about the
essential contents of the directive.
